We hope you had a wonderful and enjoyable Easter break. Many of you hopefully used this as an opportunity to revitalize your energies and recharge your batteries. Many of you reading this newsletter are healers and know that a big part of your work is helping people to restore and maintain their vitality. This is not only essential to good health but is principal to the full enjoyment of life.

The other day we had the opportunity to do some volunteer work with a group of young school children in our community through our involvement in a local environmental group. They were involved in identifying things in the natural environment as we walked through the bush and they also got to plant a tree. We had an enjoyable day interacting with them, but it was the observation of this group we found interesting.

They all seemed keen enough to be involved, but apart from the usual observations of differences in behavior, we noticed two distinct groups; those with plenty of energy to burn along with a natural inquisitiveness and excitement, and those that seemed to be just dragging by. Now admittedly a big part of this distinction will have to do with their real interest level, but on the surface most appeared interested enough. The rest of the story would have to do with vitality, their available mental and physical energy levels.

Sure, as healers we know lots about energy and restoring its balance to achieve positive outcomes for ourselves and our clients. At the base line though are strong connections with what we eat, our general interest in life and our relationship with nature. A part of this story was noticeable at lunch time when we observed what different children were eating and also from their attitude as we interacted with them throughout the day.

Watching these children for a day reminded us that we are all given the opportunity every day to decide which group we want to be in. Our health, happiness and enjoyment from life are in proportion to the choices we make about what we eat, how we think and how involved we are prepared to be, and also by the quality of the rest periods we allow ourselves to take.

Stone of the month.

Smokey Quartz (Smoky Quartz) is silicon dioxide and has a Trigonal crystal system. It is coloured from grey to warm brown, light and clear to an almost “solid” looking black/brown. The characteristic smokiness is caused when quartz is exposed to very low levels of natural radiation from surrounding rocks or radioactive elements over a very long period of time. It is formed hydro thermally, mainly in the spaces of gas bubbles in ancient volcanic rock.

Smokey Quartz is a protective stone. In Alpine countries, crucifixes are still being made from it. Soldiers have worn it as a protective amulet, in the belief they would return unharmed from war. In Scotland this crystal is known as Cairngorm and there is a rather large point in their National sceptre.

Known as ‘The Stone of Co-Operation’, Smoky Quartz is a gently grounding and protective stone that also cleanses and clears negative energy. As a grounding stone it transmutes negative energies and facilitates your ability to get things done. It will help you to be present, right here, in the moment. It enhances organizational skills and is good to have around in the workplace, office or home.

Smokey Quartz will instil balance and harmony; it enhances quiet reflection, especially during meditation. It has a relaxing effect and can help to bring you peace of mind. How Crystal Shapes Heal Different Areas of Your Life and Body

Crystals come in more shapes than man can count! However, there are a few special “stand-outs” that have caught the commercial (and mystical) eye – and these listed below are the most popular, as well as the most effective:

Pyramids

The very shape of the pyramid is inherently powerful. When crystals are shaped into a pyramid, this allows you to focus your mental, physical, and emotional energies through its apex, or tip.  The base of the pyramid provides a very grounding influence. Also, to maximize its focusing power, you may want to program, or “charge” your pyramid crystal to achieve certain goals. Pyramid crystals can also be used to fend off negative energy. Of course, shop at your own discretion, with your instincts fully loaded, but many people like the smoky quartz pyramids (brownish-white, caramel); the clear quartz pyramids, and the snowflake obsidian (black or dark-grey with white patches).

Obelisks

The straight, tallish, tower-like appearance of the obelisk crystal does just what it looks like it would: it amplifies energy and focuses it out through the apex, or top of the point. These crystals help people attain or keep a good mental, physical, and emotional balance. Among some circles, it is also thought that obelisk crystals help dissipate negative energy, making it a useful shape for locations like the workplace, or any room in which there may be stress or conflict. For example, during large family gatherings, the kitchen might be a great place to put a lovely obelisk-shaped crystal, such as the Lapis Lazuli (topaz, with many-coloured specks), or clear quartz.

Points

The crystals that literally “come to a point” are used for healing, and these are the ones that are most widely recognized. This is a good thing, because pointed crystals can (with the healer’s help) channel positive energy by aiming it toward the body; and aiming it away from the body to dispel all toxins and sludge, or debris, especially in the blood stream and intestines. Crystal points are also powerful tools for clarifying and focusing intention. In other words, if you really, really want something, keep a pointed crystal by your side. Think of it as a natural “laser,” at which you can “point out,” with exactitude, your intended target! Good colours for the pointed crystals are the rose quartz, amethyst, and citrine (a lovely blend of peach/light orange and milky white).

Wands

Not to be outdone, crystals are also shaped into wands for many practitioners who prefer the Reiki healing approach to using crystals, and Wiccans and other spiritual and religious groups favour wands. Now, wands are varied in that some are single-pointed, and others are double-pointed, and the differences are mighty, so listen up! The energy in the single-pointed crystal wands goes directly from you to the person you are healing; the double-pointed crystal wands provide an even exchange of energy that, if you feel strong enough, you can use to enhance the healing experience by “taking away” your own energy and “offering” it to another. It is a very precise art form, but many advanced healers love to use these double-pointed crystal wands.

Geodes

Geodes are interesting formations that look like little (or big)! “houses,” in a sense, that contain clear quartz crystals, while others have lovely purple amethyst crystals tucked inside them. These are the so-called “half-shell,” or “cut open” crystals you will see that are usually too large to carry around, but are used slightly more for decorative purposes, due to their size. However, a great amount of healing has been done with geodes, particularly those with Agate, Chalcedony, or Jasper, banding the crystal’s “outer shells” that hold and display the magnificence of the cluster of the many crystals inside. Commonly found crystal clusters are Amethyst, Calcite, Dolomite, and Celestite. With geodes, you really have a mystery on your hands, because there is no easy way of telling what the inside of a geode holds until it is cut open or broken apart. However, geodes from any one location usually have a certain type of interior mineralization; you won’t find a lot of variety in one dig, if you’re interested in the archaeological aspect of locating geodes!  Geodes are essentially rock cavities with internal crystal formations. The exterior of the most common geodes is generally limestone or a similar kind of rock, but the interior is what you pay for – the beautiful quartz crystals and/or chalcedony (milky, grey, translucent) quartz deposits. The shallow “cave” structure of the geode does make a captivating piece for any room; the beautifully large and vibrant crystals are very hard to resist. Gaze into a geode for twenty minutes and watch what happens: you’ll be in a light trance, full of the lights and sounds of faraway places! The most popular (and arguably the best colour for geodes) is amethyst, which absorbs negative energy like a sponge while increasing creativity and insight. These lovely crystal structures are often quite expensive, but well worth the price you pay for peace. Actually, amethyst is almost considered essential for any crystal healer. Like the clear quartz crystal, it calms, cleanses, and heals – helping us to be more creative, spiritually aware and healthy.

Crystal Tips and Techniques.

Relief from insomnia (Continued from last month).

If your insomnia is being caused by geopathic stress you may need to grid the corners of your house with any of the following crystals: Amazonite, Amethyst, Brown Jasper, Kunzite, Smokey Quartz, Black Tourmaline or Selenite.

Electromagnetic pollution can play havoc on a good night’s sleep and can be neutralized by gridding the house as above, and/or by placing stones on or around your electrical appliances. Lepidolite is also very effective in this case, but the Amethyst is less effective.

Best results are achieved if you grid with just one type of crystal; or a different one may be placed under your pillow. However a variety may be used on appliances.

If your sleeplessness is due to a particular problem such as an upset stomach, or a migraine headache consider selecting a crystal that will ease the problem and take it to bed with you. (Continued next month).

A house keeping tip – when you are less than motivated to get on with the house cleaning, but you know you just have to get it done, try placing a few Smokey Quartz crystals around the place. This should increase your pride and joy in your living space and cause you want to keep things tidy and clean.

Getting organized – a few Smoky Quartz crystals placed around your workspace can help to keep you organized. This is especially helpful if you are one of those people who can never find anything.

Removing the ‘blues’ – hold a Clear or Smokey Quartz in each hand, take in a few deep breaths and then allow all of your depression or blues flow down your arms and into the crystals. Continue until you feel you feel much lighter and brighter, or until you have removed as much as you possibly can. When you have finished be sure to thoroughly cleanse your crystals by washing them under running water. It would also be beneficial if you then recharged them, by sitting them out in the morning sun for a few hours.
